Itinerary: Irkutsk - Listvyanka - Circum Baikal Railway - Vydrino - Bolshye Koty - Listvyanka - Irkutsk

This tour is for those who are interested in the beauties of Siberian nature. You will see Baikal, covered by the transparent crust of ice and hammocks. You will make excellent photos of winter Baikal. Besides, you will find out some facts about its history and traditions. Come to Baikal in winter !

Itinerary:

Day 1:

Arrival in Irkutsk. Railway or airport pick-up. Accommodation at Irkutsk Hotel located at the quiet historical part of the city. 
 
Later you will go for the city tour.
 
* You will visit the most beautiful places of interest in Irkutsk as well as the legendary ice-breaker “Angara” produced in England, on the base of which a museum was set up.
 
Lunch at one of the best city restaurants featuring traditional Siberian menu.
 
* After lunch you will visit the Local History museum which presents an architectural masterpiece and truly decorates the city. It looks like a knight’s castle built in Moorish style keeping unique ancient exhibits which narrate you about the history of Siberian exploration.

Day 2:

Breakfast at hotel

At 10:00 leaving for Listvyanka

En-route visiting ethnographical museum "Taltsy", featuring the open air exposition of unique wooden architecture monuments dating back to the 17th - 20th centuries.

*There are the old streets, the administration building, the school, the chapel, the original residents` houses and the household items of the previous centuries. At you r disposal there are Russian folk winter amusements and entertainments. For example: sliding down the biggest ice-hill on cow-hides. If you can walk on stilts - you`ll be the hero of the day! If you can`t - it`s just the time to learn to do it!

Then you go to Listvyanka

Lunch at one of Listvyanka restaurants, where you will try delicious Baikal fish dishes.

Accommodation at "Krestovaya Pad" hotel

*"Krestovaya pad" hotel is located in Listvyanka settlement in Krestovaya valley. It has cozy rooms with all the conveniences and a breath-taking view upon Baikal.

After lunch you will visit the local wooden St. Nikolas church and Baikal museum, where our guide will tell you about Baikal flora and fauna counting 3500 species. ThereyouwillseeBaikalseals.

*Baikal museumis a unique place which exposition is devoted to the history of Baikal explorations, its fauna and flora. It features Baikal fishes, stuffed birds and animals, samples of bottom sediments and Baikal minerals and different exhibits found during the scientific expeditions. You will be amazed how beautiful and unique is the world of this sacred lake!

Returning to the hotel

Dinner

Day 3:

Breakfast. Transfer of the group to the base of Baikal Expedition Corps.

Gear pickup, outfitting the group, short information about the construction of a snow-mobile, getting instructions about the technique, rules of driving and the order of moving during the route.

Leaving Listvyanka for Circum Baikal Railway

* The Old Baikal Railway (Circum Baikal Railway) is the unique monument of engineering architecture. It is “a golden buckle on the steel belt of Russia”. This section of 84 km was the hardest on the entire trans-Siberian Railway (from Kultuk to Baikal stations). By the amount of various constructional works carried out per 1 km, the Old Baikal Railway surpasses all the other railways of the world. This section numbers 424 engineering structures which include 38 tunnels with the total length 9063 m., 15 stone galleries with the total length 295 m and iron-concrete galleries with holes, 248 bridges and viaducts, 268 retaining walls. Tunnels and galleries of the Old Baikal Railway are unique for being constructed by non-typical projects and were not reconstructed in the following years thus preserving the initial idea of architects and engineers of the early XX-th century.The route goes along the shore. Part of the road goes along already existing ice roads, after Cape Kadilnyi (30 km from Listvyanka) the direction will be chosen by the instructor with the regard to the ice situation (hammocks). On the way you will be making photo stops and short breaks with a lunch at local house.

Then, on snowmobiles cross the lake to Vydrino village.
