*Yakutsk - the capital of Sakha Republic (Yakutia) with about 300 thousand people living in the city, which makes about 28% of the whole Republic population. It was established in 1632 by the Yenisei Cossack Peter Beketov. The city is situated in the valley Tuimaada on Lena river`s left bank. Yakutsk is the biggest city situated in the zone of the permafrost with the area 122 square km. Yakutsk is the administrative and cultural center of the region. It has 7 theatres, including Opera and Ballet Theater and the North Circus. The industry is presented only by those branches which support the city life.

At 19:00 - starting the cruise

Day 2: Lena pillars (Lenskiye stolby)

Visiting the national park “Lena pillars”. Here you will see the unique natural phenomenon- the steep cliffs in the form of columns having the height about 200 m and stretching along the Lena River for more than 80 km. In their arabesque shapes one can discern colonnades, arches and castellation... A lot of fun awaits you in this “fabulous city”. After the welcoming ceremony with the ritual dancing and the ceremony «Fire Purification» - go ahead to the cliff exploration (a test for the strong and tough people!) The feelings and pleasure which you`ll experience can`t be described or reproduced. From any peak of any "tower" you`ll be highly impressed by the marvelous panorama of the great river, boundless taiga, cliffs and rocks of the most different tints and shades giving you the impression of being just a small part of the primeval nature and the vast Universe.

Day 3: the run

In this section Lena goes through the Central-Yakut depression. Its valley gets 20 - 40 km wide, the width of the floodplain makes 7 - 15 km. There are numerous lakes and marshes in the floodplain. The river-bed is branchy, the way of navigation varies. The river can be 16 - 20 meters deep. En-route you will be passing the biggest Lena tributary - the Aldan River. The wonderful views upon the slopes of the Verkhoyansk mountains open up for you. The banks of the river go on stepping aside, the wide area of the river valley is filled with islands and creeks. Hundreds of kilometers of this boundless river environment present deserted not-inhabited lands.

Day 4: the Vilyui River Mouth

Vilyui is the biggest left-hand tributary of Lena, being 2650 km long and the catchment area being 454 sq.m.

The upper stream of Vilyui was bound with the dam, basement of which is created by the rocks of Ulakhan Khana rift. The water reservoir created by the dam stretches for 400 km along the river valley. Chernyshevskii settlement was specially established for the constructors and servicing people of Vilyui HEPS. One hundred forty km downstream on Achchygyi Khana rift another hydro-electric power station Svetlinskaya was built. 1170 km of Vilyui from its mouth are navigable; when possible from the water-reservoir you can get to Chernyshevskii settlement. The main ports of Vilyui are Vilyuisk, Nyurba and Chernyshevskii. The river and nearby lakes are rich in fish (sturgeon, taimen, lenok, nelma, nerfling, etc.). The river catchment contains the deposits of diamonds, coal, natural gas and salt.

Day 5: Zhigansk

The first settlement beyond the Polar circle. Zhigansk ostrog ('fortification') was founded, just like the fortress of Yakutsk, in 1632. If translated from Tungus language, the name "Zhigansk" means "the one who lives downstream". The people here are engaged in hunting, fishing and cattle-breeding. Zhigansk is the administrative center of the similarly named ulus ('settlement') with over 3 thousand people living here. As it is not deep enough for your ship to come to the river bank, you will get ashore with the help of a small ferry. Here you will visit the performance of the local singers, who, with the help of their improvised epic singing and fascinating chords of ritual "kamlanie" will render the sounds of nature: howling snow-storm and whistling of the wind, rustle of the leaves and grass, murmuring of the water and the wings of a flying bird. The real music is the world of nature and inner feelings!

Day 6: Kyusyur

Stop in Kyusyur, a small polar settlement. The local men's occupation is deer-breeding and hunting, and women make beautiful national clothes decorated with fur and beads. Kyusyur will impress you by non-sophisticated countryside life typical of Extreme North, by the warmth and openness of the local people. You will not fail to notice the settlement look, as the severe climate and strong winds leave their lasting impression on the outer look of the houses and streets. The place is also known for its tragic history connected with the hard destiny of the people resettled here from the Baltic area and central Yakutia.

Day 7: Tiksi (Neelovo)

If the weather is good you will have an excursion in the settlement of Tiksi, the sea gates of Yakutia. In Yakut language this name means "meeting point". The map was enriched by one more settlement - Tiksi - in the middle of the 1930-s. Navigation period is rather short here - 2.5 months, and during 9 - 10 months the Laptev sea is ice-bound with the ice crust being 1.5 - 2 meters thick. In winter the polar night comes - the sun seems to forget about this area for several months, the place lapses in the darkness realm. Sometimes if the sky is not overcast one can see the flaming auroras of the polar lights. In summer the time of white nights comes, Yakut sun is shining 24 hours a day. Formerly one of the most beautiful Yakutia Soviet cities, nowadays Tiksi is in dire economic condition.

Day 8: the run

Lena is one of the biggest Siberian rivers and one of the largest world water veins. No other river in the arctic Eurasia makes a similar in size delta with the area over 32 thousand The Lena delta is presented by the whole net of big and small creeks, channels and lakes with over 1500 islands of different size. HeretheLenariverenterstheArcticOcean. Thisdayweshallspendonboard. You will see the so-called Lena "pipe". Steep rocky river banks up to 400 meters high in some places seem to hang upon the leaden water. The width of the river bed is reduced to 2 km and less, thus emphasizing the power and greatness of the shore cliffs...

Day 9: Natara

Stop at the mouth of the Natara River, where in 1920 the settlement of the Tungus fishermen was established. You will not hear telephones ringing or car motors working. Here the Time seems to have stopped. What is left from the former settlement is a cemetery and a couple of houses. Nowadays in summer only one family lives in Natara, doing fishing and hunting. Here you can feel the breath of the ancient times and simple everyday life. Natara is a wonderful blessed place on the Lena River, here you can feel united with the northern nature.

Day 10: Polar circle

Polar circle is an imaginary line on the Earth surface, the parallel in the Northern hemisphere with the latitude 66°33' 38''. During the winter solstice (21st-22nd of December) to the north of the polar circle the Sun does not appear, and during the summer solstice (21st- 22nd of June) it does not set down. The Polar circle is constantly moving, its geographic position is not stable. In fact it moves by approximately 2 meters during the day and 100 meters during the year. Thanks to the modern technologies it is possible to define its position in any time. During our cruise the ship will cross the Polar circle in the region of Agraphena island in Zhigansk ulus. The people living in Zhigansk have established on the Lena left bank the symbolic sign saying "Polar circle".

Day 11: the run

Having left behind the boundless water area with the Northern Polar circle we pass by the Vilyui and Aldan Rivers. In the region from Zhigansk to the mouth of the Vilyui River there is an area called 40 islands. In reality there are much more of them, and you will feast your eyes on this "island fairy show".

Day 12: green stop

In one of the pristine Lena areas you will have a green stop. On this wild river bank you can have a walk along bewildered paths, have a look at the bounties of nature and enjoy the look of the magnificent sunset. In the evening, in honor of the coming cruise end, there will be the symbolical Camp-fire of Friendship established, and the songs in different languages will be performed.

Day 13: Sottintsy

Excursion to the historic-architectural open-air museum "Druzhba" ('Friendship'), located at the place where Lenskii fortress was founded by the Russian explorers to become later the city of Yakutsk. The museum features the examples of the old wooden architecture in traditional Russian and Yakut styles. It will be interesting for you to see the expositions of the wooden items, Yakut national clothes and the monuments of the Russian Christianity. Marvelous landscapes and fascinating historic excursions will make the visit to the museum-reserve not only informative, but also very pleasant.

Day 12: Saying goodbye to Yakutia
